The Karma system will be described here. Anything that is not covered by karma will be listed after this FAQ.
What is it?
We will be using a roll plus bonus system. What that means is that you earn points for being at raids. When loot drops you roll on it and you may choose to add points to your roll. Who ever has the highest total wins. We will be using a modification of the Ni-Karma system. Players will gain Karma. Also known as the Favor of the Loot Gods.
What am I allowed to roll on?
Depending on what the stats are determines who is allowed to roll on it. The definition of these stats and classes can be found on this worksheet. The officers have worked hard to find a distribution system that was fair. If you have questions about it please see an officer. Basically with minor tweaks, melee rolls on melee gear, tanks roll on tank gear, dps casters get priority on +hit gear and healer get priority on MP5 gear. Classes get priority on thier highest armor type before any one can roll as a down grade. So Cloth wearers get priority on cloth before Plate, Leather or Mail wearers get to roll on it.
How do I gain Karma?
You gain points by raiding and killing a boss. The points vary per instance. Instances with many bosses award 5 points per kill. Those with a single boss award 40. These points will be doubled for a guild first boss kill. If you spend no karma it should generally take you 3-5 weeks to max out your karma on a farm instance.
These may change at the discretion of the officers. If they do notices will be posted. In addition occasionally the GM or Raid leader may authorize bonus karma for exceptional duty.
I was told there would be no math. Could you give me an example of gaining points?
Sure. I'll use our first High King kill as an example night since every one started at 0 points then.
- I start with 0 points.
- I showed up in front of the instance ready to go before the invites went out. I get 5 points. I now have 5 points.
- We clear the trash and attempt High King but he refuses to die. We get respawns. I get 5 points. I now have 10 points.
- We clear the trash again and attempt High King. He still refuses to die and begins to make soup from our bones. We get respawns. I get 5 points. I now have 15 points.
- We decide to give it one last try before calling it a night. He dies for the very first time! After the rejoicing dies down. I get 10 points for killing him. I now have 25 points.
- I also get 10 points for this being his first kill. I now have 35 points.
- I was also there for the entire time of the raid. I get 5 points. I now have a total of 40 points.
That math wasn't too bad, but how do I get the purple shinies?
When we get loot the master looter and the officers will look at it and determine which classes and specs have first priority on an item, such as hunters on ranged weapons. If you are one of these people you have a choice to make. You can roll with your karma or without your karma. If you choose without it is a straight 1-100 roll. If you choose with you get your karma plus a 1-100. Highest roll wins.
Is there ever an automatic win?
Yes. If you choose to use your karma and the next person using karma has 100 points less than you it is an automatic win. This is because the roll is 1-100 and there is no way that they could beat you.
Does karma ever go away?
Yes it does. If you use karma on a roll for an item and you win you lose half your Karma. In addition if you receive a Tier set token you lose half your karma.
Half!?! That's a lot!
That really depends on how many points you have. If you only have 2 points you only lose one. If you have the max karma you would lose 100 points. This is to give every one a chance at the gaining the favor of the loot gods and getting their purple shineys.
Max Karma?
Yes you can max out your karma. You can never go above 200 points. This is to encourage people to spend it freely. Basically use it or lose it. On a bright note you can never go below 0.
So can you show me how a loot roll might go?
Sure here goes:
- The French Matre'De dies and we have three raiders that are eligible for the [Vorpal Cheese Slicer of Doom], Yacko, Wacko and Dot.
- From previous raids Yacko has 75 Karma, Wacko has 55 and Dot has 30.
- Yacko doesn't really need it and he chooses to roll with out a bonus. Both Wacko and Dot roll with their bonus.
- Yacko rolls a 78, Wacko rolls a 37, and Dot rolls a 66.
- Yacko's total is 78 + 0 = 78. Wacko's total is 37 + 55 = 92. Dot's total is 66 + 30 = 96.
- Dot wins with a 96. Much to the fear of unsliced cheese everwhere.
- Dot loses half her karma and is now at 15. Yacko is still at 75. Wacko is also still at 55. Wacko did not lose any karma as he did not win any loot.
Is there a place where I can see my current Karma?
Yes there is. Currently it is just a thread as we get the system up and running. And it can be found here.
What if I am asked to bring in an alt for a run or run as a secondary spec?
There are times when people are asked to bring an alt to a run or switch specs for a fight. This is usually to help maintain role balance for a particular fight. If you are asked to bring in an alt you can choose at that time to have your Karma for that run transferred to your main. If you are running an alternate spec for the entire run you can choose at the time you come in to roll as either your main spec or your alternate spec. If it is only for a fight or two you can be considered rolling as your main spec.
How about Legendary items
Legendary items are a status symbol of the guild. They show that the guild has managed to complete a difficult task. They draw the attention of other players to the guild. We will always wish for all legendary items to stay within the guild. All Legendary items will be heavily discussed by the officers before hand and officer looted.
I have questions that aren't answered in your witty but informative FAQ
As in all things if you have questions talk to your class leader first, a different officer second. You could also message Biaxident/Therthan as he will be maintaining it. (Finally managed to off load it, yay!)
